Chelan Track & Field Team has some top competitors

Chelan Track Coach Andrea Parnell is pleased with the performances of Chelan’s girl relay teams. “I would say all of our girls relay teams are very strong this year,” said Parnell. “I also look for Matt Pittsinger, Sarah Waszhewitz and Abraham Arias to have outstanding seasons in their field events.”

Parnell reported that Arias is breaking his personal best records at nearly every meet the team attends. “We also have a very strong group of freshman athletes to keep an eye on,” she said.

On Saturday, April 16, the team traveled to the Cashmere Track & Field Invitational and the girls 4X200 relay team recorded their season’s best time in a took second place for their effort. The relay team consists of Cody Knaub, Abby Phelps, Morgan Hawkins and Darcy Austin this year.

Here are some of the personal records set by Chelan athletes in Cashmere:

Bre Holloway (11th grade) set a personal record in the 800m

Bobby Anderson and Tanner Hendricks  (9th grade) both set new personal records in the 200m

Sarah Waszkewitz (12th grade) Javelin & Discus

Cody Knaub( 12th grade) 200m

Darcy Austin ( 11th grade) Javelin

Abraham Arias ( 12th grade) Discus

Matt Pittsinger ( 12th grade) Javelin

Coach Parnell reported that it was cold and rainy but that the Chelan athletes put in a great meet, competing against 13 other teams from around the region including 4A competition from Wenatchee and Moses Lake along with 3A competition from Eastmont and West Valley-Yakima.

Billy Poppie - Javelin and Shot Put

Corbet Sandvick - Shot Put and Discus

Morgan Hawkins - 100m

Jenny Sundberg - High Jump

The Chelan Track Team travels to Quincy for the Quincy Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, April 23 with action beginning at 11 a.m.
