GAME #1: MANSON 7 - PATEROS 1
This was probably one of the biggest wins for Manson Baseball in five years (until the second game today.) We were in need of a big performance from our pitcher and we really needed the guys to back him up at the plate and in the field. Luckily for us we got a great game from Cole Matthiesen on the mound, huge hitting from Jordan Pittman and Curtis McClellan and great defense from everyone. The lone run that we gave up came from a walk, an error at second base and a bad throw at third. Otherwise this was an extremely clean game for us! I couldn’t be much prouder of our defense than I was during and after this first game. Cole ended the game with sixteen strikeouts, five walks and one hit. Jordan and Curtis each had three hits for the game. Freshmen Kent Ustanik almost made a diving catch on the one hit that Cole gave up in the game, the effort was definitely there!

GAME #2: MANSON 13 - PATEROS 9
This game was an even bigger win than the first game, as the kids really built some confidence in themselves. We really cut down the errors in the field, strikeouts at the plate and most of all we cut down the mental errors. Defensively the kids made plays and knew where they were going with the ball without having coaches yelling to let them know what to do with the ball; this is a huge step in the direction we want us going with this season. It was great to see so many different people making plays throughout this game. Another huge part of this win was Stellan Giffin going the distance and getting his first career win on the mound! Cole Matthiesen led us at the plate with another home run, while Cameron Peters found a way to get on base four times during the game. Blake Callison also came up big for us tonight with a hit, he got hit and he reached base on an error. I really hope the kids are as proud of themselves as the coaching staff is, but I also hope they realize their work is not done with a single game this Friday and then two HUGER league double headers next week!
