Wade Gross had a great night on the mound

This is the best that the Manson Trojan nine has played since the program was brought back last year. The first game was Wade Gross's best pitching performance in the past two seasons! This is the second straight game I have been able to say that about Wade.

Unfortunately, I can say something else for the second straight game; our defense had trouble backing Wade up again, as only one of the seven runs that he gave up was earned. We had another 9 errors in the field, and most of those came with runners already on base. Wade did a great job of pitching strikes and getting ahead of batters most of the game. Wade struck 9 batters out and only walked 1 while hitting another.

Jordan Pittman did a fine job behind the plate, he is getting better with each game, he even threw out a runner for the first time and came very close to throwing out others throughout both games.

Gross also led us in hitting with 2 hits and scored a run. Schuyler Neff scored a run and reached base on an error and a walk. Robbie Pittman is finding his stroke at the plate as he had 2 hits and also reached base on an error in the first inning. Jordan Pittman reached base all three times that he went to the plate. Nathan Coggins hit the ball hard in his first at-hat and got a single for it.

Ultimately, I got to hand it to Chelan though they really played smart baseball in this first game and capitalized on any little mistake that we made. They created good things for themselves by putting the ball in play and moving their runners around the bases.

In the second game we came as close as we have come in two years to getting a win, but unfortunately darkness ended our bid for a big win. Instead we came away with a 2-2 tie, which is a huge step in the right direction for the kids.

Our kids played hard and played much smarter (most of the time) during the second game. We cut our errors down to only two! That is by far the fewest errors we have had in a single game the past two seasons. Robbie Pittman did an incredible job on the mound. This was one of Robbie's 2 best outings in the past 2 seasons (he threw 5 and 2/3 innings of a perfect game last year against Liberty Bell.) Robbie didn't give up a hit until there were two outs in the fourth inning of this game. In the end he gave up only 1 earned run on 2 total hits while striking out 8 batters. Robbie made sure he got ahead all game long, making it a lot easier to dictate what he wanted to do with each hitter. Leonel Castro had a great diving catch from left-field in the fifth inning helping preserve the no-hitter until the very next batter. Schuyler Neff also had a diving stop shortstop and along with a nice flip to Migi Escalera at second base in the fourth inning.

It was too bad we didn't hit the ball better in this second game to help Robbie out, as Chelan's Matt R. kept us off balance at the plate all game long with a lot of off-speed stuff, he really did a good job of throwing strikes and forcing us into a lot of infield groundouts. Robbie had another good game at the plate going 1-1 with a very well hit triple to left field; he was also hit by a pitch in the first inning and stole a base.

Jordan Pittman had a well placed double right down the right-field line knocking in Robbie from third. Nathan Coggins hit line-drive up the middle for run scoring single in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth Chelan had two very well hit balls to center that went for a triple and a double by Will R. and Gabe Q. (no last names were given for Chelan.)
