Coach Hill reports….
Well this was another one of those games that cause coaches to got either gray or bald! We jumped out to a 10-0 lead and led most of the game until we had a stretch in the fourth quarter that we really struggled to take care of the ball.
Our press really gave Liberty Bell trouble just like their press really gave us trouble. It is really hard for either of us to prepare for the other because we can't really do the things they do in practice, and they can't really do the things we do in practice; thus it has really created some epic battles.
We did a great job of getting their "big guns" into foul trouble, but just couldn't quite get them off of the floor. I really have to commend Shelby Scott and Bailey Bradshaw as they both played really well for a long time with four fouls a piece. Liberty Bell is a great team and they showed why they were ranked in state polls all year long and why they won the regular season league championship, but with that being said our girls hung strong with them all game long and with a break here or there this easily could have gone the other way. Both teams came to play with a lot of intensity tonight.
Veronica Vanderholm followed her best game of the year offensively with an even better game tonight with career high of 21 points. Veronica kept us in the game, throughout the whole time that we were leading it seemed like every time they hit a big basket she would come back down the floor and hit another shot for us. 21 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals
Vetta Maynard had a 7 points and 8 steals for the game. Liberty Bell's main focus on defense was stopping Vetta, which they did an ok job, but Vetta worked hard game long on defense to help create opportunities for her teammates. 7 points, 3 rebounds, 8 steals
Liberty Bell's other target was Marci Nelson, whom they held scoreless even making sure she was only able to get 4 shots off. Marci sat a good portion of the game on the bench because of foul trouble, but when she was in the game our wheels were running at their best as she seems to get everything going for us at both ends of the floor. 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals
Verna LaCourse did a great job tonight leading the team in defensive rebounds with 6; which a season high for Verna, in fact we struggled as a team to get defensive rebounds, but Verna gave us a spark on the defensive glass tonight. 2 points, 7 rebounds
had a rebound and a steal tonight while also helping the break the Liberty Bell press numerous times throughout the game. Abby worked hard in the post on defense all night long against much taller players than herself. 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal
Hailey Ellsworth led the team in assists tonight with three. Hailey also did the majority of the ball-handling as she broke the full-court press all game long. 4 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
came off the bench to play another solid defensive game, any time the ball is on the floor if Angelica is in the game I know she will be in the mix. Angelica was asked to guard the Liberty Bell's fastest player and she was up to the challenge and helped hold one of their best players to 3 points on the night.
Eva Escoto came into the game and gave us some valuable minutes during the second quarter; her speed is very tough to handle the ball against which is exactly what happened tonight while she was in the game.
Yessenia Escoto came into the game to play some defense, but her time was limited due to her sprained wrist.
Mindy Neal played tonight and before that ever happened Mindy, Yessenia and Eva were the loudest most supportive players on the bench in uniform.
Whitni England did an absolutely wonderful job cheering on her teammates and being as positive as possible just like she has been all season long.
I am very proud of the girls and how hard they work every day whether it’s at a game or in practice. The girls did a great job tonight almost pulled off a great win; which they deserved! They have no reason to hang their heads about anything; we will get after it the next two days in practice and then go up against Kittitas on Thursday at 4 pm at WenatcheeHigh School again.
** Fans Please wear Your BLUE....
It was great having a huge crowd at the game! They did a great job of keeping the excitement going and keeping the girls pumped up! Thanks for coming!
Having the band was also a huge boost! The girls love to have their own band at the games!
Hopefully everyone that was at the game tonight comes back on Thursday and it sure would be great if everyone brought some more friends with them!
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE SUPPORT, COACH CHRIS HILL
