MANSON GIRLS 47 @ OROVILLE 40
Coach Hill reports….
This was a very physical game for the girls, but no matter how hard they got bumped or elbowed they just kept coming back. Marci got one of the worst bloody noses I have seen in a long time, yet the next thing I knew she was asking if she could go back into the game. This is the type of enthusiasm the girls have showed all season long. The girls battled through many lows during this game to get the win. Early on we struggled with turnovers, they fixed that after halftime. Later we struggled with many missed shots; they fixed that by hitting some huge shots when the game was on the line. I am once again very proud of the girls and they way work and hustle at every practice and every game. Also, our girls showed class and sportsmanship throughout the entire game no matter what happened during the game.
This game was not our best played game by far, but to be able to have an off-night and still get a "W" is a good thing. Some of the girls were playing new positions and finding out who they are late in the season. Throughout the entire second half Oroville gave us their best game and continued to take the lead, but the girls brought their killer instinct again during the fourth quarter to put the game away and ultimately get us our third straight victory.
Vetta Maynard came up big again with a season high five three-pointers, 2 huge treys in the fourth quarter alone! Marci Nelson had a good all around game with five points, 2 steals and 2 assists. Verna LaCourse came off the bench to secure three rebounds. Abby Bridgewater had four rebounds and 3 steals as a starter. Veronica Vanderholm had eleven points and 7 rebounds. Hailey Ellsworth took over at the point tonight and played a great second half after her nerves calmed down, even hitting her first 3-pointer of the season. Angelica Suarez hit the biggest shot of the night when she banked a runner in from the right side as she got fouled! Yessenia Escoto was once again a defensive stopper in the fourth quarter when we needed her the most.
Some the stats may not be that accurate tonight because our stat keeper was doing double duty when she was trying to get Marci's nose to stop bleeding after the she took an UGLY elbow to the nose.
With tonight’s' win we moved back into third place by a half game as Kittitas lost to Entiat.
