Coach Hill reports….
ACH (Almira- Coulee-Hartline) jumped out on us really quick with their long range shots, but once again we settled down and played much better the rest of the way. We even had it down to a four point game in the second quarter when foul trouble hurt us again. This game was much closer than the score shows for the majority of the game. The girls played hard and tried to hard to do exactly what Coach Bennett and I asked of them all game long.
ACH is a very good basketball team, but our girls came away from this game knowing it could have been different while still realizing that our real season starts Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at Kittitas with our league schedule.
This was another game that we were short-handed. We stared the game with one regular starter (Hailey Ellsworth) not playing and another player (Abby Bridgewater) that has started not playing. We will be lucky enough to get both of them back for our game at Kittitas on Saturday along with Yessenia Escoto who has not played in a game since December 2nd. We are really excited to get all three back into the line-up!
Marci Nelson played another good all around game with ten rebounds, six points and three assists while guarding ACH's best player. Vetta Maynard led us in scoring for the sixth time totaling fourteen points. Whitni England had the task of guarding a very good point-guard, who was much bigger than her, but Whitni held her own all game long getting seven points and three steals of her own. Verna LaCourse had one of her best games of the year pulling down six rebounds. Mindy Neal had a nice jump shot from the right corner during a well played fourth quarter. Eva Escoto scored her first points of the year in only her second game of the year, she is improving very fast as she has not played for a couple years. Veronica Vanderholm was challenged before tonight’s' game to play to the best of her ability and she did play as well as she has played all year at both ends of the floor. Freshman, Angelica Suarez played hard all game long again, and as little as she is she finds a way to frustrate the other team often with how hard and physical she plays.
Vetta Maynard: 14 points, 5-24 from the field, 1-2 from the line, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 7 steals
Whitni England: 7 points, 2-9 from the field, 3-4 from the line, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
Marci Nelson: 6 points, 2-13 from the field, 1-2 from the line, 10 rebounds, 3 assists
Verna LaCourse: 2 points, 1-3 from the field, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Veronica Vanderholm: 6 points, 3-6 from the field, 7 rebounds, 1 steal
Eva Escoto: 2 points, 1-2 from the field, 1 rebound
Mindy Neal: 2 points, 1-1 from the field
Angelica Suarez: 0-2 from the field, 3 rebounds
