Varsity Lady Trojans Came Up Short against Waterville

Hailey Ellsworth goes up for the hit

 10/25/08 - Nancy Miller reports..

The Lady Trojans Varsity team had a tough time in Waterville Saturday night, October 25th losing by a very slim margin in the 4th game match against the shockers. Their next match is at home with Soap Lake on Thursday, October 30th. The game time is at 5:00 p.m.

Coach Bridgewater's Report...

On Saturday the Lady Trojans traveled to Waterville in a key league match up. The Trojans fell in four close games. 25-27, 25-21, 20-25, 21-25. It was an up and down match for the Trojans. Playing real well at times, but were unable to sustain that play throughout the match. Stats for the match were as follows.

Whitni England served 22/22 with 4 aces. She had 28 assists 1 kill and 1 block. Marci Nelson was 18/19 with 3 ace serves, 7 kills and 8 defensive digs. Abby Bridgewater had 6 kills and 9 defensive digs. The Trojans have two regular league games left. Soap Lake comes to town on Thursday night and then Entiat is here on Saturday. There will be no JV match at either of those matches so game time for varsity will be at five and eleven. At the Entiat match the seniors will be recognized as it is their last home VB match.

The JV team almost didn't get to test their skill against the Waterville team. The Shockers' coach withdrew just hours before the scheduled match due to too few eligible players. Lady Trojan Junior Varsity proved their mettle after the varsity match by challenging the Shockers that had not played in the previous match. Manson trumped them in three games with the score at 25/14 in the third game. This was the final game of the JV's 2008 season winning 8 out 11 matches. Congratulations JV Lady Trojans!

Whitni England goes hand to hand combat with Lady Lion

10/23/08  Varsity Head Coach Bridgewater ~ Reports .......

Manson volleyball had a home match against Liberty Bell on Thursday, Oct. 23rd. The Lady Trojans came out on top with game scores, 11-25, 25-18, 25-11 and 28-26. We came out really slow in the first game. I was worried about our intensity even before the match started. Liberty Bell is a much improved team from the first time we played them. We had trouble serving, passing setting and hitting in the first game. It was one of those games that even when we did something right Liberty Bell would stick out an arm and the ball would fall over and down on our side of the net. Between that game and the second game we got together and literally threw that game away.

The second and third game we played much better and turned the momentum our way. In the fourth and final game Liberty Bell started out strong and it became a battle to then end. Both teams had chances to win it but served into the net and gave the ball back to the other side. The final point was a long rally with a number of good hits and digs on both sides of the net. The ball finally fell to the floor when Abby Bridgewater was able to push a soft tip to her left.

Whitni England had another strong match for the Lady Trojans. She served 100% with 8 aces, 2 kills, 25 assists and 8 digs. Verna LaCourse and Kelsey Harding had 10 and 9 kills each. Hailey Ellsworth served a tough match adding 6 ace serves herself and Marci Nelson also served 100% with 5 ace serves. The JV won the match out of 3 games. The scores were 25/15, 18/25 and 25/19.

Lady Trojans Win Important Match against Kittitas

Brittany goes up for the kill              photos by Nancy Miller

 10/21/08 -  Varsity Head Coach Bridgewater ~ Reports .......

The Lady Trojans came out on top with a 4 game win over the Kittitas Coyotes who came into Manson on Tuesday night for a very important volleyball match for both teams. Scores of the games were 25-9, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21.

Kittitas had beaten us in our first league meeting. The Lady Trojans came out firing, dominating the first game. The Coyotes seemed to settle in and played a much better second game but the Lady Trojans proved too strong. In the third game things changed and Coyotes took advantage of some missed serves and poor passing. In the fourth and final game the Lady Trojans regrouped and came back with another strong game.

Whitni England was 24/26 serving with 7 aces, 25 assists and 1 kill. Kelsey Harding added 2 ace serves, 11 Kills and had 7 defensive digs while teammate Marci Nelson served a tough 12/14 had 7 kills and 1 dig.

Verna LaCourse up for the block hit

10-16-08 -  Heidi Neal Reports…..

The Manson Lady Trojans traveled to Bridgeport on Thursday, October 16th for action packed volleyball with rivals, the Bridgeport Fillies. The varsity lost in 4 games with games scores of 22/25, 25/21/ 14/25 and 15/25. A surprise visit by the Manson Unique Cheer Crew (MHS amazing guys) helped jv team members and Trojan fans rally loud spirited cheers for the varsity Trojans! The varsity played hard but just could not hold back the Fellies’ power.

Varsity Head Coach Bridgewater ~ Reports .......

Manson Trojans lost a four game match to league leading Bridgeport on Thursday October 16th. Scores of the games were, 22-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-25. Bridgeport is a very defense minded team. They dig and pass the ball well and were able to find the holes in our defense. Abby Bridgewater lead the team with 8 kills, 3 blocks, 2 ace serves and 1 assist. Kelsey Harding had 8 kills. Brittney Gustin came off the bench and provided a lift to the team with 4 kills, 1 stuff block and some tough serving. As a whole the team did not serve like we have been. We were only 82 % for the night and have been up in the 90’s our last two matches. Bridgeport is a very well coached and discipline team . We very well may meet them again in districts. I am sure it will be another hard fought battle.
