Carmel Easley and Kelli Lafferty have teamed up to become Chelan’s formidable doubles team on the girls side. They have won all three of their matches since teaming up including the Cascade team who qualified for state last year.
Cascade defeats Chelan on tennis courts
By Richard Uhlhorn
The undefeated Cascade boys team prevailed over the Chelan boys at the Thursday, April 17 meet held at Lake ChelanShores with a 4-1 team score.
The only player to continue his winning ways was last year’s state champion and still undefeated this year, Tyson McGuffin who defeated Josh Subido 6-0, 6-0. McGuffin, who is a talented player left the match on Thursday, drove to Entiat where he met up with Wenatchee’s number one player to hopefully get some competition before the Regional Playoffs.
On the girls side of the court, Cascade defeated Chelan 4-1 with the only win coming from the doubles team of Kelli Lafferty and Carmel Easley who are not 3-0 on the year since teaming up. “They have beat two of the top doubles teams in the league in the past week,” said Coach Marty Rothlisberger. “The Cascade doubles team they beat today went to state last year.”
Easley/Lafferty will have a tough match on Saturday in Omak as they face off with one more team that competed at the state tournament last year.
