Tyler Clark scored a near fall in his first round action and then quickly pinned his opponent from Okanongan in the second round to help his team retain their first place lead in the Caribou Trail League.
Goats defeat Bulldogs 53-15 to remain undefeated in league wrestling action in the CTL

The Chelan Goat Wrestling team made quick work out of their CTL opponent Okanogan in Chelan Thursday, January 4, as six of the team scored falls and one scored a technical fall (15-0) to defeat Okanogan 53-15.
Prior to the varsity action, Tyler Allen (145 lbs.) set the tone for the evening by pinning his opponent in an exhibition match.
Jose Lopez (119 lbs.); Steven Swinford (145 lbs); Tyler Clark (160 lbs.); Jesse Allen (171 lbs.); Davey Anderson (189 lbs.); and Sean Gervais (215 lbs.) all scored pins in this match. Gage Schmidt (140 lbs.) won his match in with a 15-0 technical fall.
Tyson McGuffin, now wrestling down in the 152 pound classification, lost his match to Okanogan senior Devin Ottis who also popped down to the 152 pound class from 160 pounds. This was a tough battle as McGuffin tried to score on takedowns which Ottis wasn’t having. He eventually won the decision in three rounds 6-3.
“We had a good performance tonight,” said an excited Coach Jay McGuffin. “They were more confident on their feet tonight.” McGuffin said the team is looking forward to tougher battles in League. “We have Tonasket and then Omak. If we can beat them, we will win another league title.”
The ultimate team goal is to bring home hardware from the State Tournament. “I’m seeing them come together as a team,” said McGuffin who has started a Good Morning Club where those who wish to work out can join him at 6:30 a.m. three mornings a week. “It’s not required, but I expect them to show up. We just work on technique.”
The excitement is building amongst the wrestlers as they gain confidence in their skills, and in the parents and fans as they see Chelan becoming a true wrestling force in the Caribou Trail League.
