Goats capture Chelan Tournament Championship

The Chelan Goats continued their winning ways by beating a very tough Connell Eagle team 60-47 take win first place at its own Holiday Hoops Tournament.
Leading the way for the Goats was sophomore Joe Harris who dumped in 21 points and dished out 10 assists in the game. Once again Cameron Reister proved to be hot on the home court from the three point line scoring 12 points from beyond the line. Mat Engstrom and Zane Sandum are proving to be very tough under the basket, each scoring six points. Sandum led the team with 10 solid rebounds, five on defense and five on the offensive side of the court.
Connell and Chelan fought a tough battle in the first quarter and just before the buzzer, Julio Juarez scored on a lay-in to give Chelan the 17-13 edge going into the second quarter of play.
In the second quarter the game stayed relatively tight early, but Chelan got its offense working and was able to get the ball under the basket for some great shots which had the Goats outscoring Connell 21-8 to end the first half ahead 38-21.
Towards the end of the half, Connell’s Brett Clyde and Zane Sandum got into a little verbal jousting and were warned by the official. Clyde didn’t take the warning seriously and was given a technical foul which Joe Harris capitalized on from the free throw line.
This made Connell’s coach angry at his player and then he lashed out at an official after a traveling call. “We’ve got enough problems without you three,” he said. Later in the game he and the official made peace.
The third quarter was a much closer game then the run away second with Chelan outscoring Connell 11-10, but with only 1:43 remaining in the third, a frustrated Lance Whitney was called for a technical foul helping Chelan add a few more points to the scoreboard. The third ended 49-31.
The fourth quarter brought about a number of timeouts by both teams and Coach Harris played most of his bench which allowed the Connell Eagles to outscore Chelan 16-11, but the Goats walked away with a nice 60-47 win and the first place trophy at its own tournament.
