Lady Goats top Cascade by 20 points
Lose to Cashmere and Zillah
by Richard Uhlhorn

Chelan’s Lady Goats came home to host Zillah on Friday, January 30, after losing to Cashmere on the road 64-37. Cashmere is the strongest team in the CTL and hasn’t lost a game yet. They are 8-0 on the season and Chelan’s Lady Goats will face them again on Friday night, February 6

“When we execute, we do well,” said Coach Steve Nygreen. “It was a great game (Zillah). We need to work on little things.”

The Lady Goats played hard against a strong Lady Leopard team on Tuesday, January 27. The Zillah girls pressed hard throughout this game, but Chelan worked through that and was able to clear the ball down court effectively and by the end of the first quarter of play, Chelan was only behind by 5 points, 7-12.

They maintained an aggressive game and towards the end of the second quarter, Chelan was ahead, but Zillah answered with two quick 3-point shots to head to the locker room at the break ahead 20-16.

Things fell apart for Chelan in the third quarter as Zillah held them to only one point while scoring 12. This was the deciding factor in who would win the contest, but Chelan fought back in the fourth quarter to a 7 point deficit with 5:48 remaining. Zillah took a timeout to adjust to Chelan’s push and ended up winning this contest 43-31.

Turnovers were the major factor to Chelan’s loss.

“Emma had a great game,” said Nygreen. Stockholm had 12 points and a number of rebounds, but the rest of the team, while having a lot of good looks were unable to make their shots. Katie Gleasman added 5 points and Drew Morris, who is normally shooting in double figures was held to 3 points.

On Saturday, January 31, the Goats traveled to Cascade and came home with a 56-36 win with Emma Stockholm shooting well with 22 points. Drew Morris was back on her shooting with 11 points and both Jesse Oules and Lindsey Brownfield added 6 each.

Tip off on Friday, February 6 is at 6 p.m. against the league leading Cashmere Lady Bulldogs.
