Lady Goats battle back from a 10 point deficit to defeat Omak 45-33
by Richard Uhlhorn

Chelan’s Lady Goats had a tough night against the Omak Lady Pioneers but were able to pull out of a 12-22 deficit after the first half to go ahead and win this contest 45-33.

In the first half of play, Chelan’s shooting percentage was way down. The girls were getting good looks but unable to get the ball through the hoop. At the end of the first half, Chelan led 9-8, but in the second quarter, a blistering defense and great offense by Omak created a 10 point lead going into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Chelan came out and played some great defense and turned their game around. “I was proud of the way they came back,” said Coach Steve Nygreen. With 4:06 remaining in the third, the Lady Goats had worked to within three points of Omak. At 2:00 minutes remaining, Katie Gleasman was fouled while tying the game at 25-all. She hit the free throw to give Chelan the lead back by one and they never looked back.

At the end of the third quarter, Chelan and Omak were locked in a battle with Chelan one point in front 30-29. Chelan shut down Omak in the fourth quarter of play and jumped out to a 37-32 lead and finally put the game in the history book with a 45-33 win.

Coach Nygreen told the team that being down 10 point was nothing. “That can change quickly with a couple of threes and a field goal… you end up right back in the game.” Which is exactly what the Lady Goats did.

Katie Gleasman and Emma Stockholm both scored 14 points each and Drew Morris added another 13 to the scoreboard. Shandiah Mendoza score a lay-up on a fast break that brought her from Omak’s side of the court all the way to the basket.

Jessie Oules and Madi Harrison have been doing an excellent job taking care of the ball and setting up the offense.

The Lady Goats travel to Cashmere on Tuesday, January 27 to take on the Bulldogs and are then back in the gym on Friday, January 30 for a game against the Zilla Lady Leopards. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
