Number 34, Drew Morris added an 11 solid points to Lady Goats win over the 4A Eastmont Wildcats on Tuesday evening, January 6.


Lady Goats down the Eastmont Wildcats

The Lady Goats battled to a well deserved 50-42 victory over the Lady Wildcats from 4A Eastmont High School in front of a large crowd of boisterous students and fans. 

"I was really proud of the girls tonight," said Coach Steve Nygreen. "They (Eastmont) were pretty befuddled with our running game."

Chelan suffered from a number of turnovers Nygreen said the turnovers were good ones. "They occurred while we were making a play." 

Eastmont was missing there primary post player due to an injury in an earlier game, but Nygreen said she would have slowed Eastmont down even more. 

The Wildcats  kept the game close, leading by as much as eight points at one point in the second quarter. By the end of the second quarter, Chelan had battled back to within five points at the end of the first half, but the Wildcats were called on a technical foul that sent Emma Stockholm to the line for three shots, making two of them to bring Chelan to within three points., 23-26.

By the end of the third quarter, the score was 34-33 with Eastmont leading. With 6:30 remaining in the fourth quarter Stockholm went back to the free throw line and tied the game at 36-all. A minute later, Drew Morris went to the line and made both of her shots to take Chelan out to a 38-36 lead. Eastmont took a full timeout with 4:56 remaining on the clock. Chelan answered with another field goal and led the game 40-36.  Eastmont added a free throw, but Lindsey Brownfield hauled down a rebound and made the outback to take Chelan out to a 42-37 lead. 

With 3:14 remaining, Katie Gleasman added two points from the free throw line and Chelan was now firmly in control of the game. Eastmont replied with a made three point shot to reduce their deficit to four points but Stockholm hit another field goal to seal the lead at 46-40. With 1:50 remaining, the Wildcats added their final two points and Chelan Drew Morris finished the game at the free throw line adding three more to take Chelan to 50. 

Coach Nygreen lauded the defensive play the Lady a goats put up. On the offensive side, Emma Stockholm pumped in a game high 20 points followed Drew Morris who scored consistently early in the game and added 11 points. Just shy of a double figure game was  Katie Gleasman who had 9 points. Mad die Harrisocn and Malena Evig both had 4points and Lindsay Brownfield, who saw limited play against the Widcats scored 2 points.

The Lady Goats will host Republic next Tuesday evening.
