Coach Ward:

The Bridgeport Mustangs traveled to Manson on Friday night to take on our Trojans for Homecoming, and what a game it was. It was really a tale of two halves. Due to a couple of early turnovers and some dead ball penalties we allowed Bridgeport to get out to a 22-6 halftime lead. Bridgeport did a great job of capitalizing on our early mistakes. Then Bridgeport came out of half time and put together a very good 11 play drive and capped it off with a 1-yard touchdown run making the score 29-6.

From that point on our defense really clamped down, holding the Mustangs to a total of 30 yards for the remainder of the contest. Behind the strong running of Andre Hannah, Mike Pittman, and Christian Lopez and our well conditioned offensive line we were able to score a couple of touchdowns and chip our way back into the game. We opened the 4th quarter with the score Bridgeport 29 and Manson 21. The ball went back and forth for most of the quarter until the Trojans were able to cap off a 9-play drive with a 5-yard touchdown run by Andre Hannah with just over a minute to play in the game. The score was Bridgeport 29 and Manson 27 and we were in a position to go for the 2-point conversion for the tie. I had a questionable coaching moment at that point and dialed up a play action pass that came up short. It was well defended by the Mustangs. With the way we were running the ball it's one of those calls that I will probably think about for awhile.

The boys played hard enough to win and showed the coaching staff and Manson fans a tremendous amount of character coming back from a 29-6 deficit. I've known a lot of teams that would have thrown in the towel at that point but our boys didn't. I would like to congratulate Bridgeport for well played game and thank all of the Manson Trojan supporters who came to the game and cheered us on. Your presence was definitely felt on the field.

Our next contest will be in Seattle vs. Seattle Lutheran on Saturday, November 2.
