Holiday, Pittsinger and Padilla shine at State Track meet
by Richard Uhlhorn

Freshman Haley Holiday not only broke the school record at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships last Saturday, but she also took fourth place in the high jump with a 5’6” leap. First, second and third places also went to girls high jumping 5’6”.  Prior to state, Haley had cleared 5’ and was pushing towards breaking Coco Poirer’s 5’2” school record. Congratulations on a fine track season for this young and talented freshman.

Senior Karle Pittsinger ended her high school track career with two second place finishes; one in the shot put with a throw of 42’11” just short of the winning throw by Morgan Van Koster who had an impressive 45’2” throw. Karley placed second in the discus with a 131’ throw. Karle will continue her track efforts as a Husky next year when she enters the University of Washington.

Sophomore Jose Padilla set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 155’ which was good enough for second place at the State Tournament. He also took second in the shot put with a throw of 53’9.75” which was three feet shy of the winning throw. Expect to see Padilla continue to challenge school records and state records in the future.

Asa Schwartz had a 12th place finish in the discus with a throw of 120’04” but fouled out of the shot put competition.

Morgan Hawkins finished 15th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.19 seconds and Freshman Sterling Gordon had a great showing in the javelin with a 152’10” throw for 10th place overall. Sophomore Bryan Cadena place 3rd in the pole vault with a 12’9” vault.
