It looked as though Chelan and Brewster were going
to overtime when the game was winding down and the score was 1-1. Chelanís
freshman Cristian Barajas scored Chelanís second goal in the 78th
minute off an assist by Juan Garcia, giving Chelan a great win and second place
in theCaribou Trail League.
The game was a tough go for both teams. The wind was
whistling out of the west and to the east which meant the ball was doing funny
things in the air on each kick. Throughout much of the first half and with the
wind in their favor, Brewster kept the pressure on Chelan, but was unable to
put the ball in the net due to some excellent defense by the Chelan players.
Juan Garcia was outstanding defending the goal as was goal keeper Miguel
Chelan got its first goal 10 minutes into the game
when Ivan Magdaleno scored and thatís where the score remained until the second
half when Humberto Ramirez was hit hard by a Brewster defender and went to the ground
in agony. The referee either didnít see the player down and let the game
continue, or as was explained to me, if a player is down and not interfering with
the game, play can continue.
With the referee allowing play to continue, Brewster
was able to score a goal in the 46th minute of the game.
Chelan ended up with 21 shots on goal and Brewster
was right behind with 18 shots. Sanchez saved 8 shots at the net.
Chelanís JV also won 3-1 against Brewsterís JV team
