5.24.14 Chelan soccer quarterfinal game

Chelan freshman Cristian Barajas has proven to be very dangerous around an opponents goal. Against Highland, Barajas scored the only goal of the game on a fast break that gave him the chance he needed to slot the ball past the goalkeeper.

The Chelan Goats are well  on their way to defending last year’s State Championship. On Saturday, May 24, the Goats traveled to Highland to take on the Scotties and came away with a 1-0 victory in this quarterfinal game.

After a four hour trip to Highland, it took awhile for the team to settle down. Highland came out to play, but as the Goats settled in, they began to play the type of soccer they are well known for.

At the half, both teams had failed to score, but in the second half, Chelan came out and controlled the ball throughout the half. In the 71st minute, Chelan freshman Cristian Barajas got a fast break and slotted the soccer ball past the Highland goalkeeper for the game’s only goal.

Chelan had 12 shots on goal and Highland had 18 shots. Highland’s goalkeeper had 8 saves while Miguel Sanchez had 5 saves and was awarded the shutout for Chelan.

Chelan’s Semifinal game is on Friday May 30th at 2 p.m. at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

Chelan will be playing Quincy who beat South Whidbey 3 to 2 in overtime today.   If we win on Friday, we will be playing at 2pm on Saturday in the finals.  If we lose, we will be playing for 3rd or 4th place at 10am on Saturday, May 31st,” said coach Jim Broome.
