Preseason Report for Track:

Coaches - Kevin Cameron (4 years), Kurt Toolson (3 years)

Last Year- Boys team placed 4th in districts and tied for 14th at state. Girls team placed 9th in districts. We qualified 12 athletes through to the state meet. Marcus Vanderholm won districts in the 1600 and 3200 and placed 3rd and 4th in state respectively in those events. Casey Sorensen won districts in the shot put and placed 6th in state. Alex Vanderholm placed 6th in state in the discus.

Key Losses- We lost several top notch athletes from last year. Ophelia Rodriguez, Stephanie Quiroz, Marcus Vanderholm, Casey Sorensen, Bailey Stevens, Ty Harding among others.

Top Returners- Itzel Castro, Aylee Neff, Raechel Vanderholm, Alex Vanderholm, Paul Toolson, Jesse Russell, Kelly McClellen, Jorge Tejada.

Expectations- Our league is one of the best in the state. Riverside Christian won the state meet last year. Kittitas and Liberty Bell are very talented and Bridgeport has up and coming athletes. I would expect us to finish in the middle of the pack.

I hope to qualify as many kids as possible through to state this year. I expect Alex Vanderholm to break the school record in the discus. I'm hopeful that we can get some relay teams through. Manson tends to do well in the throwing events and middle distance races. We struggle with the jumping event since we lack practice facilities for these.

Coaching Staff: Co-Head Coaches: Jay Fox and Janice Stewart.

2012 Season: The Lady Trojans made it to the first round of district play, which was a goal the team set for itself at the beginning of the season.

Key Losses to Graduation: Most of the starting line-up were seniors and have graduated, including our starting pitcher and catcher. We also lost a major player in freshman, Kendra Ellsworth; she will be out the entire season with an ACL injury.

Top Returners: Jessica Tejada, Kristen Gibson, Johanna Ireland, Deisi Mendez and Celina Alejo.

The remaining players that make up the 2013 Lady Trojans are new to the sport this year. There is a lot of potential in these girls and Coach Fox and I look forward to building a great team from the bottom up!

Coach’s Comment:

As coaches we want to increase the knowledge and skill level of each and every athlete to build a team that will be very competitive, as well as a desire to be the best they can be!

Head Coach Phil Thomas 6th year as head coach, asst Gabby Lopez

Last Year’s record 9 – 1 league, 12 -6 overall, League Champions, Played in 1A State Tournament Lost to Seattle Christian at State.

We graduated 9 seniors last year, including leading scorer Cristian Montes, leading assist-maker Oscar Ocampo, goalkeeper Octavio Lopez and all-league midfielder Alex Valencia.

Top Returners: Jesus Sanchez – forward, Jesus Lopez – forward, Olegario Orozco – defense, Ulises Adame- defense, Salvador Leyva goalkeeper, Efrain Escoto – midfield.

New comers: Miguel Leyva, Angel Garcia, Angel Grageda, Jorge Tejada, Charlye Castro, Sylvain Borrey.

This year we have a lot of returning starters but also have a lot of spaces left by graduating seniors. We feel we have a lot of potential to go far this year. We are looking to get to the 1A state tournament again but know we will have to play each game to our best. Bridgeport will be tough and Liberty Bell is improving but I think we are the favorite in league, especially with Brewster and Warden moving back up to 1A.

We have some really talented players and we hope to get them to play together and to reach their potential.

Coach Greg Neff

Manson is in a building year for golf.

We have a few returning golfers who began the sport last year; they are; Gabe Sofie, Cody Caracciolo.

We have full boys’ team; Aaron Kellams, Aaron Simmons, Anselmo Pacheco and 1 girl Kaylyn Marquez.

Entiat and Liberty Bell are in a cooperative with Manson this year; Entiat has 1 player, a returning state qualifier Matt Hodge and Liberty Bell also has one player Riley Dickinson both of whom will be traveling with Manson to play in our matches.

We are still looking for the students interested in learning how to play golf and build an enjoyment of the sport.
