1/12 @ Pateros

Pateros 54- Manson 36

Coach Kurt Toolson reports:

The great Manson basketball road trip continued on Saturday night at Pateros. The Trojans have now played 7 out of their 9 games away from home this year. Pateros is one of the stronger teams on the 1B level and always a challenge to play. Manson came out really flat in the first quarter and Pateros made us pay for it, by jumping out to a 20-3 lead.

The girls did a good job recovering and playing hard the rest of the game. We even put on a bit of a rally in the second half to keep the game interesting, closing the gap to 7 points half way through the 4th quarter. The girls did a good job in their zone defense, holding the Nannies to 12 points in the second half.

Raechel Vanderholm led us in both scoring and rebounding with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Jaque Guillen had a well-rounded game with 7 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Itzel Castro toughed out the effects of a sprained ankle to score 10 points, 2 steals, and 2 block shots. I also thought Bianca Sanchez did a nice job off the bench, scoring 4 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal.

Our next game is against a tough Oroville team at Manson Tuesday night.

1/11 @ Liberty Bell

Manson 36 Liberty Bell 28

Coach Kurt Toolson reports:

Manson won their first league game of the year on Friday against Liberty Bell. The final score was 36-28. The Trojans jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never gave it up. We had 4 players enter the 4th quarter with 4 fouls, but fortunately we settled ourselves down and no one fouled out until the last minute of the game.

Raechel Vanderholm had her best game of the year, leading the team in scoring with 12, also totaling 9 rebounds. Ruby Garcia had a good game on the boards, gathering 14 for the game. Despite suffering an ankle sprain early in the second quarter, Itzel Castro still managed 10 points and 5 steals.
