4/12 Track Royal City
From Coach Toolson and Coach Cameron:
Friday, April 12th
The Manson Track team participated in the Ron Vanderholm Invitational in Royal City. The meet is named in memory of Manson Principal Don Vanderholm's brother who was a teacher and coach for many years in Royal.
The team competed very well against the other 24 schools in attendance. Most were bigger 1A schools as well as several 2A and 3A schools. There were no official team scores kept so I am not sure where we ended up as far as overall teams points go. We did have several outstanding individual performances to highlight.
Alex Vanderholm won the discus event with a throw of 135'5". This was just 1 inch short of the school record. He also placed 7th in the shot put.
Ruby Garcia placed 2nd in the discus in her first ever high school competition.
Paul Toolson placed 2nd in the triple jump with a nice 2 foot PR of 37'11". He also placed 4th in the 400m in another pr of 56.
Jesse Russell placed 5th in the 300m hurdles, an event he hadn't run in 2 years, with a 3 second pr.
Aylee Neff had an outstanding meet. She set a school record in the triple jump of 27'. She broke 14 seconds in the 100m for the first time and placed 8th overall to get a ribbon.
Raechel Vanderholm place 7th in the discus.
Sam Thomas was another athlete who was outstanding. He set prs in both the 1600 and 3200. His 3200 effort was good enough for 5th place as well.
The girls 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams both placed in the top 8 to get ribbons. The girls on the relay teams are Aylee Neff, Bianca Vergara, Delacey Machus, and Itzel Castro.
We next compete in Eastmont on Tuesday, 4/16.
