Tuesday March 26th, 2013
Coach Bill Thompson Reports:
Assistant Coach: Graham Monteleone
Our team paused on our Monday practice to reflect on character qualities such as responsibility, commitment, integrity and communication skills. As coaches, we have made it a point of emphasis this year to teach not only the rules of the game and baseball skills and fundamentals, but also what it means to be a team player and the responsibilities of a successful student athlete. I am proud of our team and the accomplishments they have achieved so far this year on the field and in terms of personal character growth.
So on a beautiful spring day in Manson, Liberty Bell came to town for a single game and our team showed excellent sportsmanship and character.
The Trojans sent five different pitchers to the mound each one throwing one inning—Freshman Chris McFadden, Sophomore Mike Sanchez, Freshman James Calhoun, Senior Travis Pittman, and Freshman Jared LaMar. Freshman Chayse Brooks started as catcher and had to be replaced after suffering an injury to a finger. Sophomore Mikey Pittman took over the catching duties and did a great job the rest of the game.
The defensive highlights of the day came from James Calhoun who made two exciting catches in center field and Senior Kent Ustanik who turned in a brilliant double play with a quick tag out and throw from the shortstop position that brought the strong Trojan crowd to their feet.
The Trojan bats were quiet with hits coming from Jared LaMar, Chris McFadden and Travis Pittman who also scored the only Trojan run.
Our next game is on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Waterville first pitch 4:05 p.m. followed by a trip to Oroville for a double header on Friday, March 29th, first pitch 3:35 p.m.
