2/5 GBB - Oroville and Bridgeport
Lady Trojan Basketball Report
Bridgeport 29 - Manson 28
Coach Kurt Toolson reports:
Manson Lady Trojans lost a heartbreaker to Bridgeport on Tuesday night 29-28. Manson entered the 4th quarter ahead by 10, but Bridgeport did a good job of hanging in there and made some plays down the stretch to pull the game out. With the loss, Manson is officially eliminated from post season opportunities.
It was a game of momentum shifts. Bridgeport came out on fire, jumping to a 10-2 lead half way through the first. Manson clawed their way back to trail by just one entering the 4th quarter. The 2nd and 3rd quarters saw the Trojans play some of the best defense in the 2 years I have been coach. We held them to 4 total points in 16 minutes of play.
Unfortunately, the 4th quarter saw a reversal of fortune, as Bridgeport started finding their range and Manson could not convert on the offensive end. We missed at least 6-7 open layins during the period that allowed Bridgeport to hold the momentum. The girls played their hearts out and it was really tough to see them come out on the wrong end of the score.
Individually, we were lead by Jacque Guillen, who easily played the best game of her season. She scored 10 points on 5-8 shooting, grabbed 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 2 assists. Bianca Sanchez also played one of her better games of her career, scoring 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals.
We finish our season on Wednesday night against Riverside Christian. They are a top 10 team in state.
Oroville Game Report
Last Thursday we travelled up to Oroville and got wiped out by the Hornets 48-19. It may have been our worst game of the season. We fell behind early and lost our confidence and energy. Several missed layins and free throws led to our demise. Oroville also pounded us on the offensive glass, getting numerous 2nd chance points that demoralized us as well. It was a game we wanted to forget as soon as possible.
