Score: Lake Roosevelt 66 - Manson 60

Date: 01/08/12 Place: Manson

Coach Erik Helleson reports:

Record League/Overall:  5-4 (1-1 league)

Significance of the game: League game

Individual highlights:  Olegario Orozco: 20 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds; Salvador Leyva: 20 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists; Alex Vanderholm: 10 points, 4 rebounds; Willy Picton: 6 points, 5 offensive rebounds

Team Highlights:  20 assists, 23 turnovers

In a very close game, we never could quite get over the hump.  Two different spurts in the 2nd and 4th quarter got us within 3 points but costly turnovers were the difference.  Although we shot 45% from the field, our 23 turnovers kept holding us back.  I was proud of the way our guys battled, but our mistakes hindered our ability to sustain a run.

Next Game:

Coach Kurt Toolson reports:

Manson Lady Trojans matched up against Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday evening in their first home game in a month.  Manson was coming off a good effort against White Swan the previous Saturday night and unfortunately, didn't seem to have recovered enough to compete against the Raiders.  Manson was flat and a half a step slow, especially on defense, most of the game.  The girls played hard, but just did not have their normal energy level.

Lake Roosevelt jumped out to an early 7 point lead after the first quarter and methodically built their lead up throughout the game.  The Raiders were efficient on offense, making several long 3 pointers and getting put backs for easy points for much of the game.  They also used an effective man defense to disrupt Manson's offensive flow and continuity.

Manson was led in scoring by Itzel Castro with 12 points.  She also contributed 4 steals and 2 assists.  Ruby Garcia had a nice game in the post, totaling 8 points and 5 rebounds.  Jaquellin Guillen also had a nice, well rounded game with 5 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, and led us in rebounding with 6.

We venture back onto the road for 2 more games this weekend: Friday at Liberty Bell and Saturday at Pateros.
