Incredible hustle and ball pressure made up for a difficult shooting night at home against Kittitas.  Salvador Leyva and Jesus Sanchez spearheaded a relentless attack, leading to 17 steals, which was our best offense.  The steals and 23 offensive rebounds (10 by Alex Vanderholm) helped us overcome a 29% shooting effort and 59% from the foul line.  We were the more aggressive team and it led to a 16-4 advantage at the line.

Coach Kurt Toolson reports:

The Manson Trojans girls’ basketball team won their 2nd league game of the season on Tuesday night 36-30 over Kittitas. Manson was behind by 6 entering the 4th quarter, but held Kittitas to just one point in the quarter for a comeback win. The game was pretty even throughout with neither team ever holding a lead larger than 6 points.

Manson once again struggled on offense, missing 10 layins and only shooting 7-19 from the free throw line. However, they were stellar on defense. The team totaled 22 steals and 13 blocked shots.

Individually we were lead by Itzel Castro who had 24 points, 7 steals and 3 blocked shots in what was probably the best all around game of her career. Raechel Vanderholm led the team in rebounding with 9. Davia Walters was the super sub of the game totaling 4 points, 4 steals, 3 block shots, and 5 rebounds. Her 4 points came in the last 3 minutes of the game that gave us a huge boost.

Our next game is a tough road trip to Lake Roosevelt. They are the first place team in our division and will be a huge challenge for us.
