Lady Trojan Basketball Game Report

Bridgeport 38 – Manson 31

1/18/13

Coach Kurt Toolson reports:

Manson Lady Trojans lost to Bridgeport on Friday night 38-31.  Bridgeport came out fired up in the first quarter, causing a few turnovers and getting some easy baskets to jump out to an early lead they never relinquished.  They lead by seven at halftime.  Unfortunately, Manson only scored 1 point in the 3rd quarter and gave up several uncontested layins to fall behind by as many as 18 points.  They made a spirited run in the 4th quarter to close the gap but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Poor shooting, both from the field and free throw line were huge factors in the game.  Manson missed 14 layins and shot a dreadful 8-27 from the line.  On the brighter side, we did have a season low in turnovers, with only 18.

Individually, Manson was lead by the 21 points of Itzel Castro and the 12 rebounds of Raechel Vanderholm.  Recognition also goes to Jaque Guillen and Ruby Garcia, both of whom had 0 turnovers for the game.

We continue our league play with a home game against Kittitas on Tuesday night.

TROJAN BOYS’ SPORTS REPORT

Score: @ Bridgeport 59 – Manson 51

Date: 01/18/12 Place: Bridgeport

Coach Erik Helleson reports:

Record – League/Overall:  8-5 (3-2 league)

Significance of the game: Road League game

Individual highlights:  Salvador Leyva: 17 points, 9 rebounds; Jesus Sanchez: 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals;

Team Highlights:  18 assists; 31% shooting; 42% Free Throws

A miserable first half was too much to overcome on the road against a strong Bridgeport team.  Our defensive intensity was lacking in the first half and that was compounded with 12 turnovers.  After making a few adjustments our guys responded in a very positive way in the second half taking care of the ball and increasing the defensive pressure.  We were able to cut the 12 point halftime deficit to 4, but could never get over the hump.  Our poor shooting night (31% FG, 42% FT) prevented us from any sustained runs.

Next Game: January 22nd w/Kittitas
