Chelan Volleyball - Post Game 1 v Quincy

Johanna Fuller (No 6) and Jenny Sundbderg block a kill attempt by Quincy in Chelan's first post season match on Tuesday evening in Chelan. Fuller has been the team's setter all year and has been a primary reason Chelan has accomplished a third place ranking in the state behind Cascade and Kings. On Tuesday, she had 41 assists, one block and was 11/12 at the service line with one ace.

Chelan’s Lady Goats knock Quincy off…play at 2 p.m. Saturday, in Leavenworth against Newport
by Richard Uhlhorn

This past Tuesday, Chelan ended Quincy’s volleyball season in a three-game set, 25-11, 25-20, 25-15, in the Lady Goats first District Playoff match.

Chelan had an easy time against Quincy in game one, but found themselves in another epic battle in game two as Quincy played see-saw volleyball with the Goats. Chelan maintained the small but steady lead throughout the game until late when Quincy pulled within one point, 20-19.

Coach Donene Hendricks had seen enough and called a timeout to regroup the girls. After the timeout, Quincy tied the game at 20-all, but Chelan grabbed the serve back and ran the game out on some well placed kills to win game two 25-20.

This knocked the sails out of Quincy’s quest to compete with Chelan and the Lady Goats won game 3 going away 25-15. The closest Quincy could get was four points behind the hard and diverse play of Chelan that had Abby Phelps and MaKenzie Harris killing the ball.

Abby was the all-around player of the game with 15 kills, 9 digs, 1 block and 9/11 serving with two aces. MaKenzie had 12 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs and was 8/10 at the service line with two aces.

Jenny Sunberg had 9 kills and 2 blocks to help the team over Quincy. Karle Pittsinger was 20/20 at the service line with 5 aces.

None of these performances from the offense could have happened without Johanna Fuller setting the ball 41 times, something she has done consistently throughout the season.

Chelan will play Newport at 2 p.m. at Cascade High School on Saturday, November 9.

Highlights:

Abby Phelps: 15 kills, 9 digs, 1 block, 9/11 serving with 2 aces

MaKenzie Harris: 12 kills, 2 blocks 4 digs, 8/10 serving with 2 aces

Jenny Sundberg: 9 kills, 2 blocks

Karle Pittsinger: 4 kills, 20/20 serving with 5 aces, 1 block

Johanna Fuller: 41 assists, 1 block, 11/12 srving with 1 ace
