Chelan soccer team loses first league match to Omak
by Richard Uhlhorn

Coach Jim Broome reports that the Lady Goat soccer team struggled in more ways than one this past week when they played Omak in their first league match of the year. “We struggled to get girls eligible and only had 11 players for this game,” wrote Coach Broome. “The girls played hard for 80 minutes with no substitutes and lost 6-3.”

The girls came out strong in the opening minutes of this game with sophomore Casey Jackson scoring Chelan’s first goal 15 seconds after the game started. It took 15 minutes for Omak to tie the score with their first goal of the game.

Chelan struggled late in the first half and Omak took advantage, scoring four more goals in a short 10 minute span. Several minutes later, Jackson scored her second goal of the game and Omak went into the half with a 5-2 lead.

In the second half, Chelan recovered from a rough first half and was able to compete better with the Pioneers. Omak scored its final goal in the 55th minute and with only two minutes left, Daisy Franco scored off a penalty kick after being taken down by the goal keeper in the 18 yard box.

Chelan’s next match is Tuesday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m. in Quincy.
