The Chelan Lady Goat Soccer Team had a rough outing against the
visiting Okanogan Bulldogs on Thursday, September 26. “Okanogan came ready to
play and out-hustled and out played us
on the field,” reported Coach Jim Broome. “We had a hard time getting a
transition going and a hard time getting any attacks on goal.”
The Okanogan Lady Bulldogs moved the ball in this game very well.
Their passing was precise and they were able to clear the ball and put on a
tough offense against the Goats. The Chelan girls found themselves on the
defense more than offense but Daisy Franco was able to score Chelan’s only
point in the 78th minute of play on a free kick.
Okanogan ended up with an 8-1 win scoring four goals in the first
half and adding another four in the second half of play.
Chelan v Quincy –
Tuesday, September 24
The Quincy Jackrabbits hosted the Chelan soccer team on Tuesday
and Chelan forced the Jacks into a Sudden Death Overtime, which they lost 3-2
Chelan’s defense, led by sophomore Shandiah Mendoza, did a great
job holding off Quincy’s aggressive attack. By the middle of the second half,
Quincy took a 2-0 lead. It was Daisy Franco who scored the first Chelan goal
when she broke through the Jack’s defense, was taken out by a Quincy player in
the 18 yard box which gave her a penalty kick. Three minutes later, Daisy tied
the game at 2-2 and sent the game into overtime.
“We had a number of opportunities to win, but ended up losing in
the fifth minute of the first overtime,” said Coach Broome.
