Goats soccer team ends season in Sudden Death
by Richard Uhlhorn
On Saturday, November 2, the team played a tough
Brewster Bear team to a second sudden death situation and ended the season with
a disappointing loss to Brewster 1-0. “I’m very proud of this team,” said Coach
Jim Broome. “They overcame a lot of tough times and battled through some tough
games, but never gave up.”
Chelan ended up with a 2-12 (3-16 overall) record
for the year, but despite the dismal win-loss record, the Lady Goats not only
enjoyed the season and playing the game, they also learned a lot. “They
improved with every game they played,” said Broome. “By the end of the season,
they were becoming competitive.”
Against Brewster (7-7 record) they battled hard
throughout the game, holding Brewster scoreless until the very end of the game
when both teams had to go through two Sudden Deaths to finish the season.
One of the highlights of the season was defeating
Quincy in front of a home crowd 6-3. “We played some great soccer for the
entire 80 minutes in that game,” said Coach Broome. It was a game that had
Daisy Franco scoring four goals with two assists from Bridget Wyant. Her third
goal came in the second half off an assist by Shandiah Mendoza and the fourth
with an assist off Mariela Galvan.
Towards the end of the game, Daisy teamed up once
again with Bridget Wyuant and assisted her in the fifth goal in thegame.
Bridget scored her second goal off an assist from Casey Jackson.
On Wednesday, October 23, Chelan faced Okanogan on
the Bulldog’s home turf and after holding the strong Bulldog team to only one
goal in the first half, ended up suffering from a strong offensive attack from
Okanogan in the final minutes of the second half to lose this game 4-0.
Chelan opened the season with a non-league win over
Manson 3-0 and also beat Omak 2-0 during CTL league play.
It was a great learning season for the Chelan girls
who are looking forward to a better season next year.
