After losing to Quincy in a shootout and ending up in a tie for first place in the CTL, the Chelan boys soccer team came up against Quincy in the District 6/7 Championship game after defeating Okanogan 3-2 in playoff action earlier. The championship game was played at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee on Saturday, May 11, with Chelan walking away with the District Championship in a hard fought battle, 3-2.
Quincy scored first off a header by Quincyís Perez in the fourth minute of this game, but in the 18th minute, Eleazar Galvan scored off an assist by sweeper Juan Garcia. Garcia kicked it long and found Eleazar in Quincyís goal box. Eleazar trapped the ball off his chest and chipped the ball past Quincyís goal keeper for Chelanís first goal of the game.
The two teams remained scoreless throughout the rest of the first half and went into the halftime break in a 1-1 tie.
In the second half, Eleazar Galvan scored the second goal for Chelan in the 43rd minute of this game. Quincy tied it up in the 59th minute and with only eight minutes to go, Erik Garcia got the ball on the left side of the field. He dribbled it and beat three or four defenders and then kicked a beautiful right footed shot into the net to give Chelan the lead and eventual win.
Chelanís first round game of the WIAA 1A State Tournament will be against Cedar Park Christian of Bothell at Mountain Goat Field on Wednesday, May 15, beginning at 4 p.m.
