Coach Marty Rolthlisberger is pretty pleased with the turnout for tennis this season. “I have 33 JV and Varsity players on the team. I have a lot of kids playing their first varsity match today.”

Chelan hosted the Okanogan Bulldogs on Thursday, March 20, and both the boys and girls teams came away with team wins. The girls’ shutout Okanogan 5-0 and the boys’ won four of their five matches, 4-1.

“This was a much tougher match for us than the scores make it out to be.  It was not lopsided competition,” said Rothlisberger.  “ Our players won the critical points at the critical times, making the victories appear decisive. The kids fought hard for these wins.”

Shelby Dietrich probably had the toughest match of the evening. “This was a gusty come from behind win against a very tough opponent, reported Rothlisberger.  “I was very impressed with Shelby's composure and determination tonight.”

This was the season opener for both teams, and also the first league match of the season.
