The opening quarter of the Chelan Lady Goats Ė Okanogan Bulldog game was not pretty. ďI donít know what happened,Ē said Coach Frank Phelps after the game. Okanogan jumped to a 8-0 lead in the first 3.5 minutes of this quarter and didnít let up with their tenacious defense that saw the Goats struggling to get their offense going.
Okanogan opened a 22-5 lead by the end of the first quarter basically on the merits of three point shooting that continued to fine the basket.
In the first 3.5 minutes of the second quarter, Chelan only allowed Okanogan two points while going on a 11 point run to get back into the game. By the end of the first half, Chelan was down by only one point, 25-26, allowing Okanogan only four points the entire quarter.
Offensively, the Goats found their game with Emily Schramm, Courtney Dietrich and Megan Robinson all shooting well.
Early in the third quarter, Emily Schramm shot the go ahead baskets from the free-throw line and the Goats never looked back down the stretch of the third and fourth quarters of play forging an eight point lead by the end of the third and finishing the game up 14 points at the buzzer, 60-44.
The fourth quarter points came mostly from the free throw line as the Okanogan girls desperately tried to get an offense going.
Along with Schramm, Dietrich and Robinson who added 14, 13 and 11 points to Chelanís total, Abby Phelps and freshman Emma Stockholm added 6 each to the score.
Okanoganís Kara Staggs shot 29 of Okanoganís 46 points.
The Lady Goats will be in the Community Gymnasium this coming Saturday evening for the annual Retro night against the Tonasket Tigers. Varsity action begins at 6 p.m. for the girls.
