The Chelan Goats were totally out of sync when they played the Okanogan Bulldogs last Tuesday evening in the Chelan gymnasium, losing the match-up 71-53. Going into this game the Goats held the top spot in the CTL and with this loss, are tied for the top spot with Okanogan with 5-1 records each.
Okanogan was firing on all cylinders with a tough defense that didnít allow Chelan to get into its usual offense early in the game. Okanogan was looking for the pass and was able to capitalize by snatching passes and hitting the basket on the fast break.
Chelan was down 18-23 at the end of the first and down by 30-43 at the half. By the end of the third quarter, Okanogan enjoyed an 18 point lead, 40-58 over the Goats as they continued to play tough defense and capitalized on a number of Goat turnovers.
The Bulldgogs were able to score from the inside almost at will with Quinton Oliver (13 points), Justin Rivas (17), Jim Townsend (15) and Justin VanderWeide ( 16) all scoring in double figures.
Kai Clausen had 14 points to lead the Goats in scoring and he was extremely effective from the outside. Under the next Hank Hollingsworth added 10 points to Chelanís total. Erick Oscarson had 9 and both Michael Amsel Jr. and Eli Jenkins added six each with Ivan Rodriguez adding two to round out Chelanís score.
Turnovers and rebounding were huge factors in this loss by the Goats.
They will be in action against the Tonasket Tigers this Saturday night, January 12, in the Community Gymnasium for the annual RETRO night. Action will begin at 7:30 p.m. after the girls varsity game.
