Coach Scott Ward reports:

We traveled up to Bridgeport on Friday night and put together 4 good quarters of football.  Our boys played hard, coaches did a good job preparing, and the fans were all there supporting us to our first victory of the year.  We came out very hot in the first half rushing the ball for 181 yards and passing for 108 more.  The offensive line was doing a great job opening up good running lanes for our backs and protecting our QB. Our defense really stood out holding the Mustangs to 20 first half yards.  Coach Harding had his defense fired up and they were ready to play.

We felt pretty good going into halftime up by 28 but were careful to not overlook the last 2 quarters of the game.  The boys did a great job coming out in the 3rd quarter and taking care of business.  Freshman running back, Jorge Tejada scampered for 10 yards and his first high school touchdown midway through the 3rd quarter.  Junior quarterback Kent Ustanic and receiver Paul Toolson also hooked up for a pair of touchdowns in the game.  The defense played exceptionally well in the second half only allowing 17 yards of offense from the Mustangs.   Our punt team had a little lapse in the 4th quarter and gave up 60 yard touchdown return to Bridgeport.  Overall, I was very proud of the team effort and the mental toughness that our boys brought to the field.  If we continue to work hard and take care of the ball good things are going to happen.

Rushing Standouts:  Javier Guillen rushed the ball for 130 yards, 11 attempts, and 2 TDs.  Jesus Lopez rushed for 107 yards, 14 attempts with 1 TD.  Mike Pittman had 8 yards on 3 carries.  Jorge Tejada finished with 12 yards, 8 attempts, and 1 TD.

Passing:  Kent Ustanik was very efficient passing the ball.  He was 7 for 9 with 143 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 Int.

Receivers: Jesus Lopez 1-33, Marcus Vanderholm 3-35, and Paul Toolson 2-75 and 2 TDs.

Defensive Standouts:  Luis Vasquez, Alex Vanderholm, Jesus Lopez, Javier Guillen, and Marcus Vanderholm.

I would like to thank Bridgeports staff for a great night of football.  The field was in amazing condition and their team played with a high level of sportsmanship.  I would also like to thank all of the fans that made the trip.  The support almost made it feel like we were playing at home.  We will be hosting Entiat next Friday night at 7:00 PM.
