Manson Cross Country Team @ Liberty Bell Invitational
Coach Kurt Toolson reports:
On Tuesday afternoon the Manson Cross Country team competed in the Liberty Bell Invitational. Manson has been without a cross country team for several years so this was every team members' first meet they had ever competed in. There were 7 or 8 schools there, mostly A schools like Chelan, Cascade, and Omak, so the competition was tough.
Our kids ran exceedingly well for their first efforts. In the women's race, Kyla Chavolla and Ofelia Rodriguez successfully completed the course and both exceeded expectations. Kyla placed 21st and Ofelia was 27th.
Our boy’s team is comprised mostly of freshman, so their challenge was great competing against upperclassmen. Sam Thomas finished 21st out of 48 runners to lead Manson. Angel Garcia was close behind in 27th. Salvador Leyva passed 7 runners over the last half mile to finish strong. Oscar Mendoza and Michael Valencia both ran better than expected to round our the Trojan runners.
Our next meet is at the Wenatchee Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24th. After experiencing one race, I expect everyone to run even better this time around.
