4/12 Baseball - Brewster
Manson Baseball April 12th vs. Brewster
From Coach Bill Thompson
The Manson baseball team played their first home game at Singleton Field with a double header against the Bears in front of a strong Trojan crowd. The fans and players were treated to a great afternoon of baseball, hot dogs and fresh cut grass.
In the first half of the double header, eighth grader, Chris McFadden was the starting pitcher for the Trojans and came out strong striking out three batters in the first inning using very effective breaking balls. Freshman Mikey Pittman, the Trojan starting catcher, called a very good game and had several outstanding blocks on curve balls in the dirt, and the Trojan defense recorded two dazzling double plays. Eighth grader James Calhoun and Freshman Mike Sanchez also saw time on the mound for the young Trojan team.
Seniors Luis Vazquez and Curtis McClellan each had a hit off of a very tough Brewster pitcher.
In the second game of the afternoon, senior Curtis McClellan pitched strong for three innings and handed over the ball to junior Travis Pittman who mixed things up with a knuckleball that had the Bears on their heels.
Seniors Bryce Glore had a sharp hit down the 3rd baseline and ended up scoring on the play of the game when freshman Mike Sanchez told the coach “Yes coach, I can do it” and put down a perfect squeeze bunt that flirted with the third baseline chalk, but stayed fair. The bunt electrified the Trojan crowd and the Bears could only watch as Bryce Glore crossed home plate with ease.
Brewster took both games on the day and both teams showed great sportsmanship and hustle. The final scores were 20-0 and 13-1.
Manson plays next on Monday April 16 at Singleton Park in Manson against Cascade; first pitch 4:35 p.m.
