Final score: Bridgeport 81 to 55 Manson

Coach Lewman Reports:

It was a great game for us. We played in a rhythm that I had not yet
seen from this team.  They played with a focus and determination that we
have needed all season. It was a great game by each player with
everyone getting in on the score board tonight.

Leading the way was Javier with 22 points and Ty Harding close behind with 21. Javier also pulled down 10 boards but leading on the rebounds was Alex Vanderholm
with 20 total boards.

We stayed focused and played with passion tonight.
It was a great game to be a part of.

The final score was Bridgeport 38- Manson 32

Coach Toolson reports:

The Manson Trojans continued on their traveling tour of the NCW region, playing their 8th road game out of the last 10 games played.  Fortunately, it was a shorter bus trip out to Bridgeport on Friday night to take on the Fillies.  This was a rematch of our first league game of the year, which Bridgeport won 47-17.  Looking back, we felt that it was one of our worst performances of the season and that we could be more competitive this time around.  And indeed we were.

It was close the entire game, usually within a point or 2 of each other.  In the last 2 minutes of the game, Bridgeport hit a big 3 pointer and we turned the ball over several times against their trap, and that was the ball game.

For the most part we played a lot better this time around.  We especially shot the ball better against their zone.  The girls had nice ball movement and were much more confident in their shooting than they have been.  We played an effective zone defense against the bigger Bridgeport team that caused some frustration for them.  On the flip side, turnovers continue to be a problem for us.  It led to several easy baskets for them or fouls against us.  We also struggled rebounding against their bigger lineup.

Individually, we had several notable performances.  Lia Verduzco came off of the bench and hit 3 out of 4 shots, including a 3 pointer that really sparked the team.  Angelica Suarez had a huge 2nd half, tallying 10 points in the half and showing off some good footwork in the paint.  Jaquilen Guillen was more aggressive going to the basket tonight and got to the free throw line 6 times, converting 4.

Jaque Guillen - 6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal

Sierra Miller - 3 rebounds

Thalia Lepley - 2 points, 1 rebound

Angelica Suarez - 10 points, 4 rebounds, 1 blocked shot

Ofelia Rodriguez - 4 rebounds

Itzel Castro - 4 points, 1 rebound, 4 steals

Kendra Ellsworth - 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals

Lia Verduzco - 7 points, 1 rebound

Also playing were Cheyanne McFadden and Rachel Vanderholm

The final score was Oroville 56-Manson 24

Coach Toolson reports:

In a postponed game due to weather, Manson Lady Trojans came up short against Oroville last night.

After the long bus ride up to Oroville, Manson came out a little flat in the first half.  Faced with a tough man to man defense, we had trouble getting into our offense and getting good looks at the basket.  Oroville's height and strength advantage caused us problems all night.  It made it difficult for us to get open shots and gave them many second chance opportunities for easy points.

We played better in the second half.  A zone defense slowed their offense and we got some steals for fast break chances as well.

Today we head to Bridgeport for our second of three games on consecutive nights.  This begins the second half of our conference play.  Our goal is to be more competitive against teams the second time around than the first time we played them.

Individual Stats:

Angelica Suarez - 1 point, 2 rebounds, 2 steals

Kendra Ellsworth - 1 point, 4 rebounds

Lia Verduzco - 5 points, 1 rebound

Thalia Lepley - 5 points, 6 rebounds

Sierra Miller - 4 points, 1 rebound

Cheyanne McFadden - 1 rebound

Jaque Guillen - 2 points, 2 rebounds

Itzel Castro - 6 points, 3 steals

Ofelia Rodriguez and Raechel Vanderholm also played

Final score was Oroville 76- Manson 63

Coach Lewman report:

It was a hard fought battle with the Oroville Hornets.  Absent a few players we had to raise our game across the board.

Lead on the scoring side was Javier Guillen with 22 and Ty Harding with 14 and Alex Vanderholm with 12 points and 8 rebounds.  But it was not enough to push past the Hornets.

We did receive some quality minutes from Olegario Orozco, and Jorge Tejada coming off the bench.  They did a good job of giving us a little extra spark.
