Chelan extended its volleyball record to 3-1 where they defeated the Okanogan Bulldogs 25-21, 25-8, 23-25, 25-21 in league action.

Leading the way to the win was Abby Phelps with 14 kills, 18 assists, 1 block and 18/19 at the service line with 7 aces. Courtney Dietrich combined for 12 kills, 1 block and 18/19 serving with 2 aces.  Junior Jenny Sundberg is showing some excellent play at the net with 8 kills, 1 block and 21/22 at the service line with 2 aces. Karle Pittsinger had 21 assists, 8 digs and 6 kills while serving 13-14 on the evening.

The Lady Goats are settling into their role as a CTL leader despite their first loss to the Cascade Kodiaks since 2008.

This coming weekend the girls will travel to the So. Whidbey Tournament and travel to Cashmere for a league contest on Tuesday, September 25 (if Cashmere is able to open their schools).

On Tuesday, September 18, the Goats hosted the Quincy Jackrabbits in league action. Quincy has dropped to the 1A ranks from 2A. Chelan posted wins at the varsity, JV and C squad levels.

The varsity played some tough offense to beat the Jacks 25-16, 25-19 and 25-12. The first two games were close until Chelan was able to break free and score on several runs. Quincy fell down in game three and Chelan coasted to the win and set.

Courtney Dietrich had 9 kills, 8 blocks, 6 digs and was 11/12 at the service line with 2 aces. Abby Phelps added 6 kills, 12 assists, 2 blocks and was 6/7 at the service line. Tess Young led the team in digs with 8. Karle Pittsinger had 6 kills from the right side with 2 blocks and 12 assists.

On the 13th, Chelan hosted Omak and all three teams posted wins with the Lady Goats taking it to the Pioneers in three games, 25-15, 25-6, 25-15. “We had solid play from all of our players tonight,” said Coach Donene Hendricks. “They did a great job of serving and receiving.”

Statistics:

Abby Phelps:           13 kills, 11assists 19/19 serving with 3 aces, 1 block, 5 digs

Courtney Dietrich: 11 kills, 7/9 serving w/ 1ace, 6 blocks

Makenzie Harris:     2 kills, 1 block, 10/10 serving w/2 aces

Morgan Hawkins:    3 kills, 15/16 serving with 2 aces

Jenny Sundberg:   3 kills, 2 blocks

Karle Pittsinger: 19 assists,  kills,

Emily Scramm:     3 kills, 2 dig

Tess Young:           5 digs

Cascade has been trying since 2008 to beat Chelan and finally did it on Tuesday, September 11, with scores of 20-25, 17-25, 15-25. “In sets one and two, we were very close until we had lapses in our ball control on the serve/receive,” said Hendricks. “As a result, we were not able to get as much activity from our hitters and stay on the offense.”

“Although we lost to a very good Cascade team, our girls fought hard throughout the match and I’m very proud of the effort they made.”

It will be quite a match-up when Cascade comes to town.
