By Richard Uhlhorn
The Chelan Goats opened up the second half of its CTL season on Friday, January 20 and came up with a solid 59-46 victory over the Tonasket Tigers. Assistant Coach Dave Spanjer reported that the team opened up a small lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it. The Goats lead by as much as 20 in the final period.
At their last home game on Tuesday, January 17, against Cascade, the Goats lost a close game 56-49 on the home court. On January 13, the Goats hosted the Okanogan Bulldogs and lost this game 63-48. Coach Spanjer reported that Okanogan jumped out to a lead in the third quarter of play that the Goats could not recover from.
With the current league record sitting at 3-3, the Goats are looking forward to the second half with optimism. Coach Joe Harris said, “We’ll be all right.”
With each game the Goats are playing better and better. The last time Omak and Chelan met up, it was on Chelan’s home court and Chelan emerged from that game with a 54-49 victory.
On January 10, Chelan traveled to Cashmere to take on the Bulldogs. This was a game the Goats really wanted, but in the end, Cashmere wore down the Goats and beat them 59-44. It was in the third quarter that Cashmere broke away from the Goats who had battled to a credible 19-19 tie at the break.
Cashmere broke away in the third scoring 25 points to Chelan’s 10. It was a deficit that Chelan couldn’t recover from.
Matt Robinson had a great game scoring 11 and Tyler James worked under the basket to score the team high 14.
