Over the past two weeks, the Chelan Soccer team has continued its winning ways defeating Omak, Cashmere and Tonasket.
Chelan v Tonasket – 4/17/12
The Goats extended their winning streak to 5-0 in league play and 9-2 overall after beating Tonasket on Tuesday, April 17. It was a cold and windy day in Tonasket, but the Goats overcame the weather and the Tigers, coming home with a 3-0 win.
Chelan went into the half time with a 2-0 lead off goals by Edy Bahena and Jorge Barajas. Both scored off assists from Diego Avina and Eleazar Galvan respectively.
In the 75th minute of the game, Chelan got the ball into the net again when Isaac Perez hit a goal on a free kick from 25 yards out. David Cruz was Chelan’s goalie and was awarded the shut-out.
In the JV game, Chelan won 3-1.
Chelan’s JV squad travels to Quincy on Thursday, April 19, to take on their JV. On Saturday, April 21, the Cascade Kodiaks will be in town to play Chelan at the new Mt. Goat Field up by Wal-Mart.
Chelan v Cashmere:
Chelan traveled to Cashmere on Saturday, April 14, for a league match against the Bulldogs.
Chelan was ready to play against a tough team and it showed as Chelan defeated Cashmere 5-1.
Junior Erik Garcia got busy right after the start of the game and scored Chelan's first goal in the first thirty seconds of the game. Other goals were scored by Captain Eleazar Galvan in the first half and Alejandro Angulo, Eleazar Galvan off an Angulo assist and Alexis Bravo late in the game when Cashmere’s goalie was off his line. Bravo chipped the goal keeper to put the ball in the net. In the 25th minute, Cashmere scored their only goal.
In the second half, Chelan scored early again. In the 45th minute, Alejandro Angulo found the back of the net. Then two minutes later, Angulo had the assist when Eleazar Galvan found the back of the net for his second goal of the game. Chelan's final goal came in the 77th minute when Sophomore Alexis Bravo noticed the goal keeper off his line. From 35 yards out, Bravo chipped the goal keeper and put the ball in the back of the net.
With Ruben Medina still injured, back up goal keeper David Cruz played in goal for Chelan.
In the JV game, Chelan beat Cashmere 2-1 in a shoot-out.
Chelan v Omak:
On April 10, after Spring break, the soccer team began the second half of the season with a win over Omak at Chelan Falls Field, defeating the Pioneers 9-2.
Chelan's Senior Captain Isaac Perez finally got out of his slump and found the back of the net for Chelan's first two goals. The first came off an assist from Eleazar Galvan. Isaac's second goal came in the 19th minute off an assist from Alejandro Angulo.
Chelan's third goal came from Eleazar Galvan who was assisted by Alexis Bravo. Then in the 32nd minute, Alejandro Angulo found the back of the net unassisted. Part way through the first half Senior Captain and goal keeper Ruben Medina was injured when an Omak forward came in cleats up and stepped on Ruben's ankle Junior goal keeper David Cruz stepped up and finished the game.
In the second half, Chelan’s Alejandro Angulo scored off an assist by Eleazar Galvan. Omak quickly answered that goal with a goal of their own a minute later. After almost a 20 minute drought of scoring, Eleazar Galvan found the back of the net again for Chelan, receiving the ball from Alejandro Angulo in the 61st minute of the game. Two minutes later Eleazar assisted Alejandro for Chelan's 7th goal of the game.
Late in the game, Omak received a penalty kick, but Chelan’s goal keeper David Cruz saved the penalty kick, but was not able to secure the ball and Omak scored off of the deflected ball.
Two minutes later Eleazar Galvan found the back of the net again. Chelan Freshman forward Fausto Vieyra found the back of the net in the 78th minute off an assist from Eleazar Galvan. Today was Alejandro's first game back from being injured a few weeks again.
“This game showed how important Galvan is to the team. Alejandro had three goals and two assists. Eleazar Galvan also had a great game and worked brilliantly with Alejandro. Eleazar also had three goals, but played unselfishly also and had four assists.”
Chelan JV also came out with a win, beating Omak 4-0.
