Orting blasts Chelan 10-1 in baseball opener
by Richard Uhlhorn

The Orting baseball team was in town Saturday for its annual opening season baseball trip and they ended up beating Chelan 10 -1.

The game was delayed due to a wet field that had been covered with snow in the early morning hours. "I was out here at 5:30 a.m. and couldn't see anything but big white drops of snow coming down," said Coach Jim Burbery.

He has only 18 players out for the team this year and is keeping all of them on the varsity roster, but will play a few JV games to keep them all active. "I have six true pitchers and all of them are capable of starting a game." He used three of them in the game against Orting.

Orting had a number of good hits, but there were also some early season errors on Chelan's part, but the game was a lot closer than the score indicates. The Chelan players seemed to swing the bat well.

Once again, Orting showed up defensively. Both teams had a couple of nice double plays.

Chelan's next game will be a non-league game against the Quincy Jackrabbits on Thursday, March 22, at Chelan City Fields.

GoLakeChelan is still waiting for the roster and stats from the game.
