The Chelan Boys Soccer Team opened its 2012 spring season on a sunny but blustery afternoon at Chelan Falls Park against Bridgeport in non-league action. The JV squad played Wenatchee High Schoolís C-Squad following the varsity game.

The boys varsity squad took up where they left off last year with a 5-0 win over the Bridgeport team that had both teams battling to a scoreless tie in the first half. Chelanís offense did a good job of keeping the ball on its end of the field, taking a number of attempts at goal, but missing high or to the side.

Bridgeport also had a few good but unsuccessful opportunities to score in the first half.

It was in the second half that Chelan began scoring with senior captain Isaac Perez passing to in Alejandro Angulo in front of the goal at the 45 minute mark. One minute later Angulo found the net again.

Isaac Perez then found the back of the net off a cross from outside midfielder Diego Avina. Twenty minutes later with both teams battling for the ball, Erik Garcia added Chelanís fourth goal of the game, and then Ivan Magdaleno scored off a bicycle kick off a cross pass from Juan Garcia.

For this early in the season, the team looks like it will offer up some exciting soccer this year.

Returning from last yearís successful team are senior Ruben Medina (1st Team-All League last year); junior Eleazar Gavan (1st Team-All League); sophomore Julio Vera (2nd Team-All League); junior Alejandro Angulo (Honorable Mention); and senior Edy Bahena (Honorable Mention).

Coach Jaime Richards is back for another year with JV Coach Gilberto Romero and Assistant Coach Jim Broome.

The JV Team beat Wenatcheeís C-Squad 3-1.

The Varsity takes on tough, cross town rival Manson this coming Saturday at Chelan Falls Park.
