Chelanís Lady Goats kept their post season magic going when they defeated Goldendale 45-39 in Wenatchee on Saturday, February 25. The win put them into the final 8 at Yakimaís Sun Dome on Thursday, March 1 where they will once again meet rival Okanogan with tip-off beginning at 9 p.m.

The Lady Goats finished their regular season with a 10-10 record and then roared into the post season with renewed vigor and dedication to the job at hand. Coach Phelps, this yearís Coach of the Year in the CTL said it best after Saturdayís win against Goldendale. ďItís the girls that got me that title.Ē

Chelan has never been shy of talent on the basketball court, and the Lady Goats proved that Saturday night when they took on the 17-7 Goldendale Timberwolves in a loser out action.

Courtney Dietrich pulled down 12 rebounds and pumped in 9 points.

Both teams began the game with aggressive defense and offensive play. By the end of the first period of play, the Timberwolves were ahead by one point, 12-11, but Abby Phelps, Emily Schramm and Courtney Dietrich all scored field goals to take Chelan out to an 18-14 lead.

Abby Phelps was relentless on the boards pulling down a game high 15 rebounds to help Chelan defeat Goldendale.

The Timberwolves kept the game close with a three point shot but Chelan roared back and finished out the second period of play with a 28-23 lead.

In the early minutes of the third quarter, Chelan jumped out to a nine point lead before their offensive shooting failed them. With Chelan ahead 34-28 and 2:30 remaining, both Dietrich and Danielle Smythe were forced to the bench with four fouls each.

Both teams were at their defensive best in the third quarter with Chelan holding Goldendale to 5 points and Goldendale held Chelan to 6 points.

In the first few minutes of the fourth period Goldendale battled back to tie the game at 34 all and seemed to be gaining confidence in their play. With Smythe and Dietrich still sitting, the Timberwolves pulled ahead by two. Dietrich and Smythe both re-entered the game with a little over four minutes left to play.

Dietrich had an immediate impact on the court scoring Chelanís next four points to take Chelan back into the lead 38-36, but she fell hard and twisted her ankle, which put her back on the sidelines.

With 2:18 left to play, Goldendale hit two free throws to tie the game at 38. Smythe scored putting Chelan back on top and Goldendale called a timeout. With 1:40 left to play, Courtney an unhappy Courtney fouled out and Goldendale hit the first of two shots from the free throwline but was unable to tie the game up on the second shot.

Megan Robinson was fouled and hit both of her free throws taking Chelan out to a 42-39 lead. Goldendale was unable to answer and Robinson was fouled once again as the Timberwolves began to see their game unravel at the seams. Robinson missed the front end, but hit her second shot. Chelan was in control at 43-39. With 18.2 seconds remaining, Smythe was fouled ant hit both of her shots and then grabbed the defensive rebound that ended the game with Chelan victorious.

Danielle Smythe had a team high 10 points and 6 steals against the Goldendale Timberwolves. Her Mother showed her excitement as Danielle finished out the game scoring two free throws to put the game out of Goldendale reach.

There were a lot of tears of joy after the game. Senior Danielle Smythe was all smiles after scoring 10 points and forcing 6 of Goldendales 19 turnovers with 6 steals.
