The Chelan Goats came to the Community Gymnasium to play some basketball Tuesday evening, January 3. And they delivered a great game for the fans enjoying Retro night losing in the last 9 seconds by only two points, 60-58.

Chelan came out in the first quarter of play and got into a regular flow, outscoring the Tigers 18-12. Tyler James was rebounding and shooting very well.

In the second quarter of play, the Tigers pulled ahead of Chelan with a few well timed three point shots and the Goats went to the locker room down 32-28.

In the third quarter, Chelan’s shooting percentage fell off as the ball just wouldn’t go in the basket despite the team having some good looks. Ephrata pulled out ahead 48-41 with several more three point shots.

By the middle of the fourth quarter, Chelan was back to within four points and then Aaron Schramm hit a three pointer that brought the Goats to within three points, 55-58. Tyler James hit a little jumper with 39 seconds remaining that put a scare into the Tiger bench that this game could go very bad on them. With the score sitting at 58-57 in favor of Ephrata, the Goats fouled Ephrata to get the ball back into play before time ran out.

At the line, Ephrata hit the first of two free throws, but missed the second shot and then on the rebound fouled Erick Oscarson who went to the line with a chance to even the score up. Erick hit his first shot making it a one point game. Ephrata called timeout and with only 10 seconds remaining on the clock, Erick missed the tying shot at the free throw line.

Chelan fouled the Tigers again and put one more free throw point on the board. With the score now 60-58 in favor of Ephrata and only nine seconds remaining, Coach Harris called a timeout.

When the ball was brought back into play, Kyle Johnson got off two shots before the buzzer but both missed leaving him with only 1 point on the game from an earlier free throw shot.

Tyler James had a great game pumping in 25 points and pulling down rebound after rebound under the basket. Matt Robinson was second on the scoreboard with 16 points and Aaron Schramm pumped in 9 points. Erick Oscarson added five and Misale Arechiga had 2 points.

The Goats are back in action on Friday night on home court against the Tonasket Tigers. Varsity action will begin with the girls around 6 p.m. and the boys will take the floor at approximately 7:30 p.m.
