It was another thrilling Chelan-Cashmere match-up with Cashmere coming out on top in overtime 58-50. “Chelan beat us tonight,” said Cashmere Principal Glenn Johnson after the game. “I told the team that Joe (Coach Harris) would have his team fired up.”

Chelan was fired up and ready to play and by the middle of the second quarter, Chelan took the lead, forcing Cashmere to take a time-out for some adjustments. At the end of the first half, Chelan was down by only three points, 19-22.

In the third quarter, with a rowdy Chelan crowd cheering them on, Chelan’s Eric Oscarson tied the game at 25-all after which Chelan took the lead with a 12 to 4 run finishing off the quarter 39-34.

Chelan was putting the league leading Bulldogs under a lot of defensive pressure which allowed them to take control of the game. Oscarson owned the boards underneath and Tyler James was also effective under the net.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Cashmere tore into Chelan’s lead with a three point shot that put them within two points. Coach Harris took a timeout and Chelan went back into the lead 41-37, but Cashmere answered that lead with a couple of free throws that put them back on top.

The game took a turn for the worse when Matt Robinson who already had 13 points, fouled out of the game on a charging call with 4:32 remaining to play. Harris takes a timeout with 3:31 remaining and Chelan behind by one.

At 2:42 Chelan ties the game at 45 and then goes ahead 47-45. Cashmere gets fouled but the player can only hit one of his two shots which leaves Chelan in front by one, 47-46.

By now, both sides of the packed gymnasium are going crazy. Cashmere goes up 48-47 and then Frankie Rosas is fouled with 10 seconds remaining and a chance to put Chelan on top again. Cashmere calls another timeout and then Rosas misses the front end, but ties the game at 48-all with only 10 seconds remaining.

In overtime, Cashmere gets the first two points from the free throw line and then adds four more points to lead by six. The Bulldogs take advantage of fouls and with only 20 seconds remaining in overtime, Tyler James scores from the inside and take Chelan to 50 points, but it is all over.

Cashmere ends up with a 58-50 victory and squeaks by its arch rival once again. This has been played out, over and over again with Cashmere. Some games we win, some games they win, but one thing is certain, Chelan-Cashmere games are always exciting.

Chelan travels to Okanogan on Friday night.
