Spring Sports are underway and Lady Goats Fastpitch Team faces Warden in home double header. While Goats Varsity Baseball Team plays host to Ording in their annual game and barbeque.
As the Spring Sports get underway at Chelan High School, GoLakeChelan has been out talking with coaches Jeff Barker of the Lady Goats Fastpitch softball and Jim Burbery of the Boys Varsity Baseball Team. Both teams play their season openers at the baseball fields next door to the Chelan Library.
GoLakeChelan's Dave Rogge was busy this week catching up to Jeff Barker, coach of the Lady Mountain Goats Fastpitch Softball Team. Although the girls have been practicing now for a couple of weeks, this weekend will be their first actual game. The girls will be playing host to Warden at the Chelan Softball facility. Rogge had plenty of time to talk about the team and Barker's return to the varsity coaches hat after a couple of years working at the JV level. Barker, who originally planned to retire from coaching, found that he would miss game too much after 15 years of coaching. So when he found out that there was need at the JV level, Coach Barker jumped right back in. Now he is back with the varsity and hoping to lead them back to prominencein the CTL.
Dave Rogge also caught up with Jim Burbery who has been the boys varsity baseball coach for a number of years. The boys baseball team is like the girls softball team, new and inexperienced. Coach Burbery is confident that once they have each player in their final position and have learned it thoroughly, that they will be competitive and will surprise a few people.
