Manson Trojan Football's 1st Annual Golf Tournament went very well.  Despite all of the crazy weather we had 9 teams and 34 players show up and play on Memorial Day Monday.  The day started so nicely as the sun was shining and the temperature was hanging around the low 70's.  Unfortunately, that didn't last for long. Right as our round began a huge thunder and lightning storm came in and temporarily put a stop to our event.  The delay lasted for about 45 minutes and then we were able to get back out there and play a very enjoying round of golf.  Despite all of the crazy weather I think that all teams had a lot fun as did the personal caddies (Trojan football players) that accompanied them.

Team Wilbur Ellis consisting of Daniel Griffith, Cory Pickeral, Craig Rayment, and John Jamison put a winning team together that dealt with all of the elements and finished in first place with a low gross score of 67.

The 2nd and 3rd place low gross teams were team Mill Bay Casino-68 and Team Miller-68.  Team Mill Bay Casino consisting of Dusty Sanchez, Jon Griffen, Jerry Louie, and Scott Ward also did just fine with the weather to place first overall for the low net category with a score of 47.

Second place in the low net went to Team Peterson-48, and third went to Team Miller-49.

All of the other teams were very close and many took some great prizes home.  Both first place teams received very nice traveling trophies that will be brought back next year for the second annual tournament.

We were also fortunate enough to have Josh Brown make an appearance at the beginning of the tournament.  Josh Brown was the Seahawk's kicker for much of the 90's and now plays for the St. Louis Rams.  He just happened to be finishing up his own round of golf while we were getting set up and stated that he would like to get a few of his friends together for a team in next year's tournament.  That would be a very exciting addition to our tournament.  He was nice enough to autograph all of the prized footballs along with our football players that we gave away to all of the players for the top two teams.  “Thank you Mr. Josh Brown and good luck to you in your upcoming season, except when playing the Seahawks. :-)”

The fundraiser was a huge success.  We had planned on raising at least $3500 to help cover much of the cost associated with sending 20 players to camp at Whitworth University.  We ended up making almost $7000 which will go directly into the Manson Booster Club to be used to pay for camp this year and hopefully help fund future football camps and possibly youth football groups if necessary.

I would like to personally thank Kevin Cameron, Jim Harding, and Brad Barnes, all Manson Football coaches, who worked very hard and were able to find some loyal community members and businesses that were excited to support our high school football program.  These guys were very instrumental in helping raise a majority of the tournament sponsorship funds.  The coaching staff and players are all very grateful for the overwhelming support.

The Tournament Sponsors that made this happen were;  Manson Red Apple Market, Barnes Orchard LTD, Manson Growers, Wilbur Ellis, Custom Orchard Fumigation, England Chiropractic, and Manson Kiwanis.  Thank you very much for your support.

Our Hole sponsors were;  Len England Orchards, North Cascades National Bank, Lake Shore Excavation, All Seasons Rentals, Green Thumb, and Sign Girl.  These companies made very generous donations to our Trojan Football team and we really appreciate their support.

Our Player Sponsors were;  Wenatchee Wind Machine Company, Lake Chelan Cheese, Reed's Marine, Robert Lorentson, Wapato Point Cellars, Chelan Fresh, and Lake Chelan Building Supply.  These individuals and companies were very generous and each one of their sponsorships will go directly to one of our players so they can attend camp.

All of our coaching staff and football players would, again, like to thank everybody for making this first annual event a huge success.  We are going to work very hard this off season to make sure that we are competitive and hopefully all of our supporters will enjoy some hard hitting football on Friday nights at Manson High School.
