Manson Varsity versus Ephrata JV
03-29-11

Coach Hill reports:

Final score: Ephrata 16 -Manson 2

Once again we had a great first inning with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first. Nathan Coggins, Stellan Giffin and Kent Ustanik all made great defensive plays. We followed that with two runs of our own in the bottom of the first as Giffin led it off for us with a double. Giffin and Cameron Peters both scored on great hustle plays. Unfortunately, our offense ended after the first inning. Luckily for us Cameron Peters showed a lot of heart on the mound! He pitched very well throughout the entire game. He just did not want to come off of the mound, and even asked to pitch again Friday. Kent Ustanik played very well at second base, especially for playing his first game at the position. Devon Griffith showed a TON of improvement from our last game at first base, he proved that hard work does pay off. Coggins also proved that he is really learning his new position of shortstop.

Hopefully we can start using our field soon as it is really tough for the kids to get the work that they need to get better when we can only use part of the field in practice. Even with the lopsided loss I can see a lot of improvement from some people playing many new positions. Once we cut down on the mental errors things will really come together for this team and that will come with a lot more reps and a dry field.

Tonight was good for getting all of our players into the game on offense and defense and see who can do what. Now we have a better idea of where people can play when our league season starts in less than two weeks.
