Game MPV, Hailey Ellsworth battles for the ball
This was so much fun for both the girls and myself. I am so happy for the girls; they worked so hard to get this win! This game was won the past two days in practice, everything the girls did in practice showed tonight. They played the best defense we have played in the last two years, we had the fewest turnovers and blocked out the best we have done in my tenure as the girls coach! It was so awesome to see so many people contribute in this game. The girls truly deserved this win and I really hope their excellent play continues tomorrow at Oroville. If we are able to hold teams to four points in the second half we will be in every game we play. I can't say it enough, but the girls really came out with intensity and battled the bigger mustangs all game long. Our girls were not intimidated by their size whatsoever. We hope Cheyanne McFadden (ankle) and Itzel Castro (wrist) are able to come back tomorrow after the physical play they endured tonight. Bianca Sanchez came in late for free throw shooting purposes and she pulled down a huge defensive rebound. Itzel Castro played very aggressive as she made three steals and had a big breakaway lay-up. Sierra Miller grabbed three strong rebounds, she also returned to her aggressive ways with two hustle fouls. Ofelia Rodriguez had another great defensive game with six steals. We were all glad she didn't go to Spokane this weekend! Thalia Lepley played another great defensive game in the post denying the ball from much bigger girls while tracking down two offensive rebounds. Cheyanne McFadden played a great overall game with three, rebounds, three assists and two steals. Abby Bridgewater played a nice game even though she had to sit a lot due to fouls. Abby continued her domination on the boards with five defensive and three offensive rebounds. Jaque Guillen continued her great improvement this season. She poured in thirteen points, grabbed seven boards and had five steals. Sometimes I forget she is only a sophomore, because of how well she is playing. Hailey Ellsworth led us like the senior that she is. She grabbed eleven rebounds and put in thirteen points. Hailey came close to completing the triple-double as she also had seven steals to go along with six assists. Angelica Suarez has continued to be a great captain even though she is unable to play (knee.) During practice and games she is always willing to do whatever is needed or asked of her.
