This was a great test of character and sportsmanship for our girls especially our senior (Hailey Ellsworth.) Hailey poured in Seventeen points in the first half, yet was told she was no longer able to shoot in the second half. She took this news just like I knew she would, she instead played new positions and dished out six assists and had three steals to lead our attack. Everyone that suited up played well and played a lot throughout the game. The girls battled through sickness (3 players,) injuries (2 players) and foul trouble (1 player fouled out) all game long until the end when we were down to five able players.
Our bench really came up big tonight for us scoring 21 points and making Twelve steals. They also scored ten of our seventeen second half points. Itzel Castro had her best varsity or jv game of the year with seventeen points and eights steals. Thalia Lepley had two points and a huge eight rebounds. Lia Verduzco had a great drive to the hoop for two points in the third quarter. Emily Huang grabbed four rebounds and one steal while playing extended minutes.
Abby Bridgewater had another great game on the boards with nine to go along with three steals. Cheyanne McFadden had another good game with six points and four assists. Cheyanne really works hard every day to improve and it has really shown lately. Sierra Miller blocked out very well as she had nine rebounds and six steals! Jackie Guillen had four points and four assists to go along with steller defense and an outstanding thirteen rebounds.
Our cheerleaders did a great job of getting the crowd into the game tonight especially during the very exciting boys game! Our crowd was great tonight as manson had the biggest and loudest crowd of anyone there tonight.
